Celebrating 100 Years of Fiat

2023 marks the centenary of the introduction of Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino cars to Irish shores.
To mark this special occasion, Classic Fiat Ireland has organised a special club weekend, from the 12th (Friday) – the 14th (Sunday) of May. The Park Hotel in Dungarvan has been selected as the “HQ” for the weekend, with a short run planned on Saturday along the Copper Coast, followed by dinner that evening.
On Sunday (14th) the club will host a gala static display of FIAT cars spanning the last century of the marque’s presence here in Ireland. This display will be held on the grounds of Curraghmore House, Portlaw, Co. Waterford. The Eircode is X91 X598. See the event listed on their website at https://curraghmorehouse.ie/events/classic-fiat-ireland

Classic Fiat Ireland attend “A Day of Automotive History” organised by Roscommon Sports and Classic Car Club at Strokestown on Sunday 21 August 2022

The day got off to a good start with a pre-show breakfast in Frank’s Bar, Ballybeg, close to the show location – our thanks to local member Enda for organising.

The club was well represented with a total of 14 cars in attendance, ranging from 128 (saloon & 3P), 131 (Sport), 132, 124 Spider, X1/9 (x3), Regata, Cinquecento (x2), Punto (x2) and Fiat Coupe.

Additionally, other FIATs on display, including a stunning FIAT 131 Abarth Stradale finished in striking blue and a miniature masterpiece in the shape of the FIAT Giannini 500 Tv, both owned by a local Italian collector.

This show has gained in popularity, evident in the large turnout at this year’s event. The overall atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, with the majority of the cars parked well-spaced on the lawn in front of the house. The recently completed National Famine Museum and walled garden were also open to walk through at leisure.

The day finished on a high note for the Club, and in particular, CFI member Dessie Tierney, when his fabulous steel grey FIAT 131 Sport won “Best Classic” of the show……extremely impressive given the high standard and variety of vehicles on display. Congratulations Dessie!

Our thanks to the Roscommon Sports & Classic Car Club for an excellently organised and enjoyable event.
